Combined potter's wheel & handbuilding course

NEW! Saturday afternoon Intro to Pottery Taster workshops

This autumn we are introducing a new taster session for those of you that want to try out not just the wheel but also a bit of handbuilding too.

The workshops include 2 hours on the potter’s wheel starting from the centred point and 2 hours of handbuilding making a coil pot and, if time allows, using molds to make a plate/bowl. You will decorate all your work using stained slips and these will then be glazed in a shiny transparent glaze once your work has been fired. It will be ready in about 4 weeks.

The introductory price for this new workshop is £90 per person (normal price £110) including all materials and firings. Held once a month on Saturdays 1-5.30pm.

This class is not suitable for pregnant women.

9 Week beginners Intro to Pottery course

This complete pottery course gives a a grounding in boththrowing on the potter’s wheel and handbuilding. There will be 4 weeks of intensive work on the potter’s wheel learning the basic technique of throwing, turning bases and pulling and attaching a handle. You will also be looking at several handbuilding techniques such as coiling, pinching and working with slabs over 4 weeks and then finishing the course with a glazing session. It gives a great starting point to further your pottery studies. Held on a Wednesday evenings 7-9.15pm.

The cost is £325 inclusive of all materials and firings.
Please note that there is a fee of £30 for a catch-up class.

Throwing courses & classes on the potter's wheel

One-off Have a go session

Held every Saturday afternoon this short class gives you a taste of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Suitable for those who are not sure about signing-up for a course or those that just want to try it, the class starts at the centred point and finishes with you choosing a glaze which is applied to your pot after it has been fired.

The sessions are on Saturdays and are at 1-2.30pm and cost £45 per person inclusive of all materials and firing for one pot (additional pots are fired at £5 per pot)

NEW! Wednesday evening longer Taster on the Potter's Wheel

We love the Saturday afternoon short sessions on the potter’s wheel but we’ve decided to slow things down a bit and chill! Our new Wednesday evening tasters are more of a social event, taking your time and having a few goes on the wheel instead of just one. We’re even throwing in tea/coffee/biscuits and even a glass of wine! Make an evening of it as well as a few pots!

The sessions are 7-9.30pm and cost £60 per person and inclusive of all materials and firing for 2 pots (additional pots are fired at £5 per pot).

8 week beginners potter's wheel course Tuesday mornings 11am-1.15pm

This potter’s wheel daytime course is for those who are a little bit more serious about their learning. Done on 7 consecutive Tuesday mornings 11am-1.15pm with an additional 2.15 hour glazing session once the work has all been fired this course teaches you the technique of throwing, centring, making bowls and cylinders, turning bases, pulling and attaching handles and throwing a basic plate.

The course runs on Tuesday mornings 11am-1.15pm.

The cost is £295 inclusive of all materials and firings.

Please note that this class is not suitable for pregnant women.

Please note that if you are unable to make one of the dates there is a rearrangement fee of £30 for each class missed.

3 week Improvers/refreshers course Saturday mornings 10.30am-12.30pm

This intensive potter’s wheel course is aimed at people who have completed a beginners course and feel they still need to iron out a few technique issues while building their confidence and also for people who have done throwing in the past and want to come back to it. The aim of the course is not to get fixated on making a pot from start to finish but to look at your technique, and work on the weak points practicing them again and again. Suited for people who want to continue their practice being either becoming a member or coming to the open sessions. Anything you make will be fired (this is included in the price), glazing is charged for separately. 

Please note that there are only 2 people in any class allowing for a lot of one on one teaching.

The course runs on Saturday mornings 10.30am-12.30pm.

The cost is £165 inclusive of all materials and firings.

handbuilding courses

5 week beginners handbuilding course Wednesday evenings

This handbuilding pottery course is on 5 consecutive Wednesday evenings 7-9.15pm. It covers coiling, pinching tiles and building with slabs giving you an essential grounding in the art of handbuilding. The last session on the course is used to glaze all your work.

The cost is £185 inclusive of all materials and firings.

4 week improvers/intermediate handbuilding course Tuesday evenings

This handbuilding pottery course is on 4 consecutive Tuesday evenings 7.15-9.30pm. It takes you on to the next level. Using our project cards as a basis, you can either spend 3 weeks developing one or two pieces of work or do a different piece every week. The project cards help with ideas and you develop the creativity while improving your techniques. The last session on the course is used to glaze all your work.

The cost is £160 inclusive of all materials and firings.
